This project involves analyzing the current environment and subscriptions to identify active resources and map their ownership with GEMS Education’s Cloud Infra team. It includes gathering architectural requirements for the Disaster Recovery (DR) solution through meetings with relevant teams to understand dependencies on AWS infrastructure, connectivity, and necessary application downtimes. The project will onboard new subscriptions according to GEMS Education’s process, configure DR for on-premises resources in AWS with security and compliance measures, and establish rollback plans. Where passive DR is unfeasible, active instance deployments will be planned, backed by backup/restore configurations. Budget estimations will be prepared, and necessary configurations—such as NSG rules, private endpoints, naming standards, data backup, policies compliance, encryption, and monitoring—will ensure adherence to GEMS standards. The project also includes supporting the application team in DR configuration, resolving issues, and formally handing over resources with signoff.
GEMS Education seeks a cloud-based solution to automate the deployment of their Learning Management System (LMS), addressing current challenges with manual, error-prone, and time-consuming deployment practices that impact performance and cause downtime. As a major educational organization, GEMS needs a reliable and scalable LMS across its schools to support efficient learning. The project aims to automate deployment processes, enhancing reliability with high availability and fault tolerance, while enabling efficient scaling to meet peak demands. By adopting modern DevOps practices, GEMS plans to streamline CI/CD, allowing faster release cycles and updates, ensure security and regulatory compliance for sensitive data, and achieve cost efficiency by leveraging cloud pricing models. This transformation will enable GEMS to deliver a stable and responsive LMS, enhancing the educational experience across its school network.
The Technology Innovation Institute (TII) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a pioneering research institution at the forefront of technological advancement and innovation within the region. Established to drive forward the UAE’s ambitious goals of becoming a global leader in science, technology, and innovation, TII is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of knowledge and fostering groundbreaking research across various disciplines.
The Technology Innovation Institute (TII) seeks a cloud-based solution to address infrastructure limitations and improve business continuity. Currently, TII operates critical applications on on-premises virtual machines with dependencies on Microsoft SQL Server and Active Directory. The institute faces scalability issues, particularly during peak periods like academic year start and result publications, and aims to migrate to a flexible, resilient cloud environment. Key requirements for the solution include dynamic scalability to handle traffic surges, a robust migration plan to ensure minimal downtime, strong business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities, and enhanced security to protect sensitive data. Integration with existing systems, including Active Directory and SQL Server, is essential to support hybrid identity solutions, while comprehensive staff training will ensure TII can manage and optimize the new cloud infrastructure effectively.
The Technological Innovation Institute’s (TII) Course Registration System project emphasizes DevOps practices to ensure efficient, reliable, and automated deployment on AWS. Alpha Data will leverage CI/CD pipelines to streamline development, testing, and deployment, incorporating automated workflows for course registration and administrative tasks. Key DevOps practices include integration testing, unit testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT) to catch issues early and ensure system reliability. AWS services like Lambda, RDS, and S3 will be configured to support scalability and automated workflows, while ongoing support includes regular maintenance and security updates. Documentation and training are provided to equip TII staff for seamless operations and future enhancements, ensuring an agile and resilient DevOps approach for the registration system.
